Zel Salazar’s Portfolio for Woodlands Academy

Personal Reflection

I am a visual storyteller and find joy whenever I capture ordinary moments in an extraordinary way. Taking photos or videos within the digital realm is more than just pressing buttons on a camera; it’s about connecting people to real stories that need to be told, allowing people to finally feel special and heard, and celebrate all of the beauties in life that are at times forgotten.

When I first entered college, I did not see “content specialist” as a possible career. Because of my Catholic background and love to help communities, I studied the Catholic priesthood. While I appreciated the service aspects during my time in the seminary, for some odd reason I did not feel complete. It was at the end of my 3rd year in the seminary when I realize that the priesthood is not my calling. My calling is when I feel at most myself and joyful, which is to create compelling photos and videos. Seeing people smile and get excited when they see the photos I take of them is the most beautiful experience. I want everyone to know how special they are and how much of a gift they are to others.

With my work experience in social media and content creation, I know how to create content that elevates Woodlands Academy’s brand perception while staying true to its Sacred Heart mission of celebrating everyone’s gifts. There is a need for people to see how a girl’s school is a relevant place that enriches individuals and is far away from the typical misconceptions people may think of. Authentic, emotional, energetic, and vibrant are words I think of when I imagine what the rebranding of this school’s social media presence can be along with the videos and images on their website. I am excited to see how this school can shine in the digital realm.
